What does Article 4 actually require?
“Providers and deployers of AI systems shall take measures to support the development of AI literacy of their staff and other persons dealing with the operation and use of AI systems on their behalf.”— EU AI Act, Article 4 (as amended by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744)
Who is affected?
Any organisation in the EU — or selling to the EU — that deploys or uses AI systems in operations.
What must be documented?
That you have taken measures to support AI literacy development for staff, commensurate with their role and the AI systems they interact with.
What qualifies as evidence?
Documented measures — assessment records, training logs, verifiable credentials. No specific certificate is required, but a signed, verifiable record is the strongest evidence an organisation can hold. Consult your legal counsel.

How long does the assessment take per person?
The AI Literacy assessment takes 8–12 minutes. For Article 4 compliance, the AI Literacy domain assessment is sufficient — full DigComp (~90 min) is optional.
Is the TalentPath credential legally sufficient evidence?
No specific certificate is legally required — Article 4 is an obligation of effort, not result. What if someone fails the assessment?
